Patient Information

Your doctor has ordered a Carotid Ultrasound (Doppler) exam. This is a noninvasive, ultrasound test. The sonographer will put a cool gel on both sides of your neck, and pass a transducer (probe) along your neck to scan your carotid arteries. This is to evaluate the blood flow in your arteries, to determine if there are any blockages caused by a plaque build up causing obstruction of the blood flow to your brain. This is a painless procedure, and there is no preparation.
